MLB 2K12: Date Fix Coming, but No Patch

2K has been anything but "Perfect" with MLB 2K12.

My post regarding the MLB 2K12 freezing issue has been seeing a lot of traffic lately. Thankfully there's an easy workaround for this gamebreaking bug, but the utter lack of support from 2K Sports surrounding this game has been pretty depressing. It's clear that they completely cut the cord after release knowing that this would be the last MLB 2K game in the series.

I saw a post on the 2K forums yesterday from a user claiming to have talked with 2K Support about the date issue. Here's the (alleged) scoop:

For everyone who might be interested, I just got off the phone with Brad from 2k Sports support. They are aware of the date issue that is causing the game to lock up and not allowing you to play it. (Ie; Having to set your computer date back to, or before, October 3rd to be able to play it.)

They were fixing it as we talked and he said it should be done by, or before, the end of the week.

HOWEVER, you will have to be connected to the Internet when starting the game up for the update to take effect. In other words, no Internet connection, no update.

Frankly, I'll believe it when I see it. While I'm hoping said fix will be released for the PC, the post didn't specify which platforms would see the fix.

The post continues on to say that there will be no PC patch for 2K12 and no MLB 2K13 next year. Neither statement should really come as a surprise. We might be looking at the end of the line for PC baseball unless another company steps in to fill the void.

Guess I'll need to buy a PS4 in a couple years so that I can play MLB: The Show. Sigh.

  1. For the record, MLB the show is a much better game on PS3
